Anxiety and Depression: Symptoms & Treatment
Anxiety and Depression are a double whammy if you are suffering from these co-existing disorders. Anxiety and Depression afflicts females more than males and affect the lives of millions of people. These Anxiety Disorders and Depression are the most commonly occurring emotional disorders today. . Depression is an altered mood and state of mind which is characterized by a sense of inadequacy and a sustained period of inactivity and/or visible lack of interest in mostly all normal activities. It is a very serious condition affecting 32 million people alone in their lifetime. One out of four women and one out of ten men can expect to be diagnosed with depression at some point in their lives, though very often it goes unrecognized. People experiencing depression may have thoughts of suicide. "This being a permanent solution to a temporary problem". If you have depression, or if someone you love is struggling with this condition, YOU ARE NOT ALONE and please seek out the proper help that you or they need. It is hard to have faith during these times and especially hard to tell someone that they can and will get through it! There are many people out there that do not and will not educate themselves on the seriousness of this illness. If you are reading this for a loved one or for yourself, please know that there are also many people who are educated and understand what your going through. The best advice is to find those people who are either professionals experienced in this illness or find someone who has been through it. I have personally found the most precious gift that I have been given is meeting these people who've been there and sharing my story. There is a bond formed during the journey that unless you've been there you could not possibly understand. Depression is a disease, and like any other disease, it can be treated and managed. Anxiety People with an anxiety disorder may have a number of physical symptoms, including shakiness, muscle aches, sweating, cold and clammy hands, dizziness, fatigue, racing heart and dry mouth. Some degree of anxiety is perfectly normal, but for some people anxiety becomes overwhelming and may interfere with the normal functioning of life. It is believed that the emotional and physical symptoms of anxiety and depression stem from a chemical imbalance that exists in the brain. Evidence suggests that it runs in families and close relatives of a person suffering from anxiety and/or depression. A person with this family history is more likely to develop these condtions than someone who doesn't have the disorder in their family history. There's been huge strides made in the understanding of the causes and development of treatments for these mental disorders. Treatment of anxiety and depression includes a combination of medication, including antidepressants and behavioral therapy. Treatment allows afflicted individuals to return to relatively normal, productive lives. The good news is that almost 80% of depressed people get better with treatment. The decision on which treatment to take is best decided between the individual and their treating doctor. Various treatment options and solutions for anxiety, depression and related disorders are available. In the past 10 to 20 years there have been major developments in treatment alternatives.
